I have extensive pension plan experience. I began my career as a pension consultant in 1970 with The Prudential Insurance Company of America's group pension department, specializing in underwriting, regulatory compliance and document work. After graduating from law school I became a staff attorney with The Becker Company, a pension administration firm. In 1977 I joined Buck Consultants, a major employee benefit consulting firm, and became an account executive, benefit consultant and manager of the law department. I continued my association with the firm as an outside consultant for several years after moving to Miami in 1981. In Miami I served as an administrator of defined contribution plans with South Florida Pension Administrators, before joining Y.S. Liedman and Associates. In 1996, I formed my own business, Middelstaedt and Associates, Inc. which provides plan administration services to defined contribution plans of all types, defined benefit plans and cafeteria plans. I'm also a prototype plan sponsor, and can provide all necessary plan documentation services. I'm a member of the New Jersey and Florida Bars.

Most of my clients are in South Florida, Miami-Dade, Broward & Palm Beach counties. However, I also have clients in California, Nevada, Massachusetts, New Jersey & Georgia. Most are closely held businesses, but a few are publicly traded. Most are small, but several have more than 100 participants and require an independent audit annually. Many are mature plans with less than ten employees and millions in assets, but they range from brand new to thirty or more years old, and from $35,000 to over $8 million in assets and from one employee to 300. I administer pension plans with about 1200 participants and $110,000,000 in trust assets. The average plan has 7 participants and $1,500,000 in assets. Nearly half of the plans are 401(k), and most of the rest are also defined contribution plans. Not included in these statistics are the cafeteria plans, which may include premium conversion, medical expense reimbursement, and dependent care reimbursement.
